Brief Introduction to Zhangzhou Institute 　　　　　　　　of Technology

　　The former body of Zhangzhou Institute of Technology is Zhangzhou Vocational College founded in 1984, which was an earlier public full-time ordinary college for higher vocational education in China. In April ,2002,approved by the People’s Government of Fujian Province , the key provincial polytechnic school ,Zhangzhou Agricultural Mechanical School was incorporated into Zhangzhou Vocational College, hence, the name of Zhangzhou Institute of Technology (hereinafter called ZZIT)came into being . Located at the foot of landscape Ma’an Shan Mountain in Zhangzhou City, it is the major body of Zhangzhou College Park.
　　The college covers an area of 660,000 square meters with a construction area of 26o,ooo square meters. There are six hundred and thirty-six staffs including one hundred and eight associate professors and more than one hundred graduates as well as five foreign teachers in the school. Some experts from the universities and enterprises are also invited as the guest professors, like the tutor of doctor ,Professor Liu Deshan from Tsinghua University. So far, there are more the ten thousand full-time students at school.
　　The institute has provided advanced and well-equipped facilities to create good conditions for fostering technical professionals. For example, there are 960,000 brochures of books and reference materials (including 470,000 electrical books and reference materials), fully complete modernized laboratories like multi-media classrooms, laboratories for CAD design, CAI imitation and nearly two hundred training bases inside and outside school ,like training centers of modern manufacturing industry, foodstuff technology, applied electronics, e-commerce, and logistics .There also have more than 2,200computers and teaching instruments and equipments. with the total value of more than 48 million Yuan RMB.
　　The Institute always obeys the motto of running school of insisting higher education-oriented, and serving the local economy, we have set up more than ten categories ,totally eighty-nine specialties of higher vocational education to meet the demands of the district economy and seven software higher vocational specialties; there also has one experimental specialty for teaching renovation for national higher vocational education, fourteen experimental specialties for teaching renovation of provincial higher vocational education, one key provincial specialty, three refined specialties, one provincial refined course ,six provincial refined courses ,which has become specialty groups and scientific course system with reasonable layout, full of vitality and meeting the demands . Since 2002, the Institute has set up nine training testing stations, such as the National Vocational Technical Authentication Station, National Computer Information Technology Testing Station, and ATA Special Permitted Testing Station., and there have been more than 9,000 people passed the authentication and got appropriate qualification certificates(including nearly half of technicians from enterprises and institutions),it has become the vocational technique authentication station with qualification of authenticating technician, the biggest scale and more complete verification types, which has been awarded honorable titles many times like “ Advanced National and Provincial Authentication Unit”.
　　The Institute emphasizes much on the connotation construction, it insists bringing the school under control by laws, establishing the school by quality, strengthening the school by professionals, thriving the school by specialties, it takes “medium scale ,bright specialties, and striving for the first class ”as the overall development goal ,and stresses teaching-centered, career-oriented, ability standard and requires quality for management , continuously improves the level and benefit of running a school. It also has relied on more than one hundred famous enterprises inside and outside Fujian Province to construct the platform for production, academy and research, to deepen the jointly running of school between school and enterprises, actively explores talents fostering model like “order pattern”. The Institute is now quickly setting up specialties in short supply ,such as applied technology of digital control ,vehicles service and maintenance, trying to push the quality education to quicken the factual input of vocational qualification, strengthen the training fostering of students’ vocational skills, completely carry out the system of “double certificates ” and “multiple certificates”, essentially realize the effective jointly matching of ability checking and social vocational certificate .It has been carrying out international education collaboration with Canada, Singapore, Germany and some industrial associations.
　　So far, the Institute has sent out more than20,000 applied professionals with the qualities of “being workable at the basic level, being workable for a long time in the position , being operational in the position , and being able to do well in the position” to meet the demands of production, construction, management and service. The employment of the graduate is keeping more than 95% every year, and the graduates are popular in their working units and the society. The Institute has been awarded the title of the Advanced Unit of Fujian Provincial Vocational Education. In 2003,it was defined as one of the ninety higher vocational colleges to train the talents in short supply by three ministries as follows: Educational Department, State Defense And Industrial Ministry, and National Mechanical and Industrial Association; In 2004, it successfully passed the excellent evaluation of the national professional fostering for higher vocational education .In 2005,it was jointly awarded the honor of “Advanced Unit for National Vocational Education, which is one of the two honorable colleges in Fujian Province; In 2006,it successfully passed the evaluation of the ninth Provincial “Civilization School ” and “Security School ”.We are now one of the five presidium members of Presidential Joint Conference for Fujian Higher Vocational Education Colleges.
　　At present, the staffs are being guided by the key thoughts of Theories of Deng Xiaoping and Three Representatives, and seriously implementing the outlook of scientific development to strengthen the professionals cultivation and make effort to create scientific features. We are trying to make our running quality, running benefit and running level in the advanced lines of the same categorized colleges in China within three to five years, and realize our brand strategic target, trying to realize the target of “the Institute owns the fame in the society, the teachers gain the reputation among the students, the students enjoy high status in the society”, therefore, it will become the center of developing training and authentication for district applied talents , the center of carrying on , exploring and transferring the applied technology serving for the local economy ,and finally become the demonstrative institute of vocational technology.
